Optometrists are trained to examine the eyes to detect vision problems and signs of common eye diseases such as cataract, glaucoma and macular degeneration. Optometrists work closely with ophthalmologists (medical doctors who specialise in eye problems) in managing stable eye conditions and providing eye screening for patients with medical conditions such as diabetes and hypertension that commonly cause eye complications.
Optometrists prescribe and fit spectacles, contact lenses, and various types of optical aids and refer patients for further management of vision problems when indicated.
To practise as an Optometrist, you will require a Diploma in Optometry.
All our Optometrists are registered with the Optometrists and Opticians Board (OOB).
