National University Hospital

National University Hospital

The National University Hospital (NUH) is Singapore’s leading university hospital. While the hospital at Kent Ridge first received its patients on 24 June 1985, the hospital's legacy started from 1905, the date of the founding of what is today the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. NUH is the principal teaching hospital of the medical school.

NUH's unique identity as a university hospital is a key attraction for healthcare professionals who aspire to do more than practise tertiary medical care. The hospital offers an environment where research and teaching are an integral part of medicine, and continue to shape medicine and transform care for the community the hospital cares for.

NUH is an academic medical centre with over 1,200-beds, serving more than one million patients a year with over 50 medical, surgical and dental specialities. The hospital is the only public and not-for-profit hospital in Singapore to provide trusted care for adults, women and children under one roof, including the only paediatric kidney and liver transplant programme in the country.

The NUH is a key member of the National University Health System (NUHS), one of three public healthcare clusters in Singapore.

Ng Teng Fong General Hospital & Jurong Community Hospital

Ng Teng Fong General Hospital

JurongHealth Campus is a part of the National University Health System (NUHS), serving the community in the west of Singapore. It comprises the integrated 700-bed Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH) and 400-bed Jurong Community Hospital (JCH). The two hospitals were designed and built together from the ground up as an integrated development to complement each other for better patient care, greater efficiency and convenience. The hospital planning process took into account how patient care, treatment and rehabilitation may continue seamlessly between the two hospitals.

NTFGH and JCH were envisioned to transform the way healthcare is provided to the community and designed to deliver patient-centred services in a seamless and integrated manner. It also works closely together with the other healthcare institutions in the NUHS cluster, family clinics and community partners to better integrate healthcare services and care processes for the community in the west.

The 700-bed NTFGH showcases revolutionary features and processes, some of which are firsts in Singapore. The 400-bed JCH offers post-acute and rehabilitative care. It complements care provided by the adjoining NTFGH, so that patients who no longer require acute care can recuperate in a setting better catered to their needs.

Alexandra Hospital

Alexandra Hospital Facade

NUHS took over the operations of 326-bed Alexandra Hospital (AH) from 1 June 2018. It is the first integrated hospital in Singapore that provides one continuum of care for different settings – from acute, sub-acute to rehabilitative care. The clinical model is team-led and programme-based. This means that every patient who comes to AH will be placed under at least one of the hospital's five core clinical programmes, and be taken care by a single doctor and the same care team, under the programme they are assigned to. This unique arrangement reduces the need for a patient to transfer to another healthcare institution, and care can be given in a more dedicated and personalised way, conveniently from one touch point.

The five clinical programmes are:

  • Well Programme (Be Better)
  • Fast Programme (Get Better)
  • Chronic Programme (Live Better)
  • Healthy Ageing Programme (Age Better)
  • Palliative Care Programme (Cope Better)

Through CareHub@AH, the hospital's Care Managers can be contacted by patients, families and community partners so that clinical and social help can be planned and provided to those who need it. The aim is to provide an experience for patients that is seamless and holistic, whereby NUHS' network of member institutions, general practitioners, polyclinics as well as voluntary welfare organisations (VWOs) and social care partners come together to help patients get better, and empower them to stay healthy at home and in the community.

AH is also where new patient-centred solutions will be piloted, to let best practices take shape, be shared, and passed on to other institutions where applicable. Enabled by technology, AH wants to achieve seamless integrated care for patients with chronic diseases, and help the elderly age healthily across the healthcare network and at home.

National University Cancer Institute, Singapore

National University Cancer Institute, Singapore

The National University Cancer Institute, Singapore (NCIS) is a national specialist centre under the National University Health System (NUHS). It is the only public cancer centre in Singapore treating both paediatric and adult cancers in one facility.

We aim to provide comprehensive yet personalised care for each and every patient incorporating cancer awareness, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and palliative care. We do so by focusing on four core areas:

  • Providing outstanding patient care
  • Advancing research discoveries from the laboratory into better treatments
  • Training healthcare professionals and scientists
  • Educating the public

Providing a broad spectrum of cancer care and management from screening and early diagnosis to treatment and long-term care, we bring together professionals with various specialties including doctors, surgeons, nurses, medical imaging professionals, pharmacists, and rehabilitative therapists.

With the patient at the heart of all our programmes, sound medical knowledge and advanced technology are combined with the human touch of specialist doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals in innovative ways to fight cancer together. We also collaborate cohesively with scientists to advance cancer medicine by translating basic research discoveries in the laboratory to applied research for clinical trials and eventually to better treatments.

Besides improving the quality of care to cancer patients, we believe in training and nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals in this field of medicine. Many of our clinicians assume dual roles, serving as surgeons as well as physicians while lecturing at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. This enables them to be attuned to the latest medical developments while their involvement in research uncovers medical breakthroughs to benefit our patients.

Patient care is backed by leading research from our research arm, the Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI). The aim is to advance our cardiovascular care and treatment to stay at the forefront of the medical field.

NUHCS is the only cardiac centre in Singapore to rank globally in Newsweek's World's Best Hospitals 2022 for the Cardiac Surgery specialty.

To fulfill our mission in patient care, research and education, most of our clinicians take on multiple roles - as doctors and surgeons, as researchers, and as teachers at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.
