Under the Singapore Green Plan, Singapore aims to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050, with interim goals to reduce emissions to 60 megatonnes of Carbon Dioxide Emissions (CO2e) by 2030 after peaking earlier, as outlined by the National Climate Change Secretariat. Under the GreenGov.SG initiative, the public sector has committed to achieving net zero emissions around 2045.
NUHS is aligned with national efforts. Our goal is to reduce all scopes of emissions that we can control or influence by 25% by 2030.
Our climate commitment
The NUHS Office of Sustainability has developed a comprehensive methodology to measure our carbon footprint. By analysing our activities and expenditures, we established a baseline of our carbon emissions for 2018-2020, which includes both our day-to-day operations and capital projects.
This baseline data provides insights into healthcare-specific areas of impact and enables us to decarbonise our operations, supply chain and value chain.
Operating carbon baseline ≈ 300 ktons CO₂e
Carbon hotspots:
NUHS' total carbon footprint for FY2023: 390 kt CO2e
