NUHS Green Plan

2025/02/05

National Targets

Under the Singapore Green Plan, Singapore aims to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050, with interim goals to reduce emissions to 60mt CO2e by 2030 after peaking earlier, as outlined by the National Climate Change Secretariat. Under the GreenGov.SG initiative, the public sector has committed to achieving net zero emissions around 2045.

NUHS 2030 Targets

NUHS is aligned with national efforts. Our goal is to reduce all scopes of emissions that we can control or influence by 25% by 2030.

    Our Carbon Footprint

NUHS developed a comprehensive methodology to measure our carbon footprint. We analysed our activities and expenditures, and established a baseline of our carbon emissions for 2018-2020, which includes both our day-to-day operations and capital projects.

This baseline data provides insights into healthcare-specific areas of impact and enables us to decarbonise our operations and supply chain.

Operating carbon baseline ≈ 300kt CO₂e

    • Scope 1: Medical gases, town gas
    • Scope 2: Electricity
    • Scope 3: Waste, Transport, Goods, Services

    Carbon hotspots:

    • Electricity, Drugs, Medical supplies, IT
    • 70% in supply chain

NUHS' total carbon footprint for FY2023: 390kt CO2e
