Biosketch

Dr Nicholas Ng read medicine at Imperial College London, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree with 1st class honours in 2011 and subsequently graduated with MBBS in 2013. He was awarded the University of London MBBS Gold Medal (proxime accesit) and was also the recipient of multiple university awards, including the Betuel Prize, Golding Medal Prize, Meadows Prize, Waller Prize, Steadman Prize, Sudgen Prize, Martin J Turner Prize, Mildred Lees Prize and UK Academy of Medical Sciences Clinical Research Prize for academic and research excellence throughout his 6 years at Imperial College London.
Dr Ng subsequently underwent residency at the Department of Paediatrics at National University Hospital Singapore, where he received his Master of Medicine (Paediatrics) and Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH) in 2016. He achieved Specialist Accreditation for Paediatric Medicine in 2020. He currently practices as a Consultant in the Division of Paediatric Endocrinology and Children’s Emergency at National University Hospital Singapore.

Dr Ng’s clinical and research interests are in paediatric endocrinology, particularly in the areas of childhood obesity, metabolic complications of obesity, pubertal disorders and the developmental origins of these conditions. He completed a Masters in Clinical Investigation (MCI) in 2023. Dr Ng has won several grants for his research work, including the NMRC Research Training Fellowship 2022 and the ExxonMobil-NUS Research Fellowship 2021-2022. He has also presented his research in various local and international conferences. He won the Kaichi Kida Presentation Award at the Asia Pacific Pediatric Endocrine Society Conference in 2021, Best Oral Presentation Award in the Singapore Paediatric and Perinatal Annual Conference (SIPPAC) in 2018, and was the runner up for the Asia Pacific Medical Education Conference (APMEC) Young Scholar Award in 2020. He also received the Excellence Award for the NUH Research Residency Program Research Showcase in 2019. In addition, he has been invited as a speaker for national and regional conferences, and is also a workgroup member for several national and international clinical practice guidelines pertaining to childhood obesity and its associated complications. 

Dr Ng had the privilege of participating in the Singapore Chief Residency Programme (SCRP) conducted by the Healthcare Leadership College in 2018. He was also part of the NUHS Physician Leadership Development Program in 2022. 

Dr Ng is a passionate educator who is involved in undergraduate, postgraduate medical and interprofessional education. He has won numerous departmental, institution and university teaching awards in recognition of his commitment to teaching. He currently serves as the Associate Programme Director of the NUHS Paediatric Residency Programme, Principal Core Faculty member of the NUH National Postgraduate Year 1 Program and is also a Core Faculty member of the Office for Students at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
