Dr Matthew Chen is a geriatrician, and is passionate about helping older adults age well in their community and beyond.
He graduated from Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London, and obtained his postgraduate qualification from the Royal College of Physicians, London. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency and Geriatric Medicine Senior Residency in NUH, and is currently a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Singapore.
His clinical and research interests currently include frailty and geriatric oncology. He was awarded the BJ Kennedy Prize by the International Society of Geriatric Oncology (SIOG) in 2022 for his work in the field, and is the current Geriatric Medicine lead for the NCIS Geriatric Oncology (GOLDEN) service. In 2024, Dr Chen and his team trained with Professor Shabbir Alibhai in Geriatric Oncology at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, University Health Network in Toronto, Canada, as part of the Team Learning Development Award (LDA).
Apart from his clinical and research work, Dr Chen is dedicated to both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, and is currently the Programme Director of the NUHS Senior Residency Program for Geriatric Medicine.
Dr Chen is also actively involved in the community, coordinating public health screening programmes and regularly delivering public talks and healthcare education. He currently serves as the President of the Society for Geriatric Medicine (Singapore) (SGMS).
