Biosketch

Dr Lin Shuxun is a Consultant in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH) and Alexandra Hospital, members of the National University Health System (NUHS), and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (YLLSoM), National University of Singapore.

Dr Lin graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) from the Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS). He completed his orthopaedic residency and received his initial spine specialist training at NUHS. In this period, he completed his membership examination of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and obtained Masters of Medicine (Orthopaedic Surgery) from the National University of Singapore. He is an accredited Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (Orthopaedic Surgery). He is fellowship trained in motion preserving disc arthroplasty techniques in Germany (ProSpine, Klink Bogen). To further refine his surgical techniques, he has done multiple surgical observerships, for disc arthroplasty in France (Centre de Chirurgie Vertebrale Montpellier) and United States (Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre), and for endoscopic spine surgery in Korea (Wooridul Spine Hospital, Harrison Spinartus Hospital Chungdam, St Peters Hospital Seoul, Daejeon Woori Hospital, Seoul Segyero Hospital, Korea University Guro Hospital). He now practices at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and Alexandra Hospital as a spine surgeon, sub-specialising in motion preserving spine surgery focusing on artificial disc replacements and endoscopic spine surgery.

Besides pursuing clinical excellence, Dr Lin is passionate about under- and post-graduate education and academic teaching. He holds the academic position of Adjunct Assistant Professor with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and is Associate Program Director of NUHS Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program. He is actively involved in a wide range of spine and orthopaedic surgery research and has published scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals. He is an active presenter in local, regional and international conferences and scientific meetings. He is also passionate about healthcare administration and has spearheaded novel programs to right site spine patients in the community and drive quality improvement programs for the department and hospital, winning a prestigious Ministry of Health Outstanding Poster Award at the National Quality Improvement Conference 2023. He has also been awarded multiple Service Quality awards and was awarded a Gold Service Ambassador Award in 2021, a Service Champ Award in 2022, culminating in a CEO/CMB Service Award in 2023.

Dr Lin's surgical expertise covers the spectrum of spine surgery, but his main interest is in cutting edge spine surgical techniques that considers the patients disease alongside their need to preserve functional motion. He is particularly passionate about motion preserving spine surgery, harnessing up to date understanding of spine biomechanics, spine implants and minimally invasive surgical techniques to prevent adverse outcomes commonly seen with conventional spinal fusion. He believes in meticulous diagnostic and therapeutic discussions, followed by the creation and tailoring of a personalised approach involving multidisciplinary services, to guide each patient and their loved ones through their treatment journey and recovery to health.
