Dr Kurumbian Chandran is a Senior Consultant of the Division of Endocrinology in JurongHealth Campus. He practises as a Senior Consultant in Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. He is currently the Chairman of JurongHealth Campus’ Diabetes Integrated Care Pathway Programme and Co-chair of the organisation’s Medication Safety Sub-committee.
Dr Kurumbian received his basic medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1998. He has been a member of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom since 2004 and a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (Endocrinology) since 2008.
Dr Kurumbian joined JurongHealth’s Department of Medicine as an endocrinologist in April 2010. As part of the pioneer team, he has helped to build and lead the establishment of diabetology services in JurongHealth by overseeing medical and professional matters, including the development and provision of services, patient management, clinical programmes, protocols and pathways, clinical standards and outcomes as well as related operational matters.
In addition to his role as a clinician, Dr Kurumbian is an Associate Programme Director for the Endocrinology Senior Residency at the National University Hospital. He is also a Senior Clinical Lecturer at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.
Dr Kurumbian has received various awards, including the Excellence in Teaching Award from the National Healthcare Group in 2008 and the Merit Award for Best Oral Presentation for the Health Services Research category at the Annual National Healthcare Group Conference in 2009. He received the Health Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) Award in 2010 and underwent training at the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology & Metabolism in the United Kingdom. There, he learnt to optimise the healthcare delivery system for patients with diabetes mellitus. He was awarded a second HMDP Award in 2014. This team award was entitled “Enhancing Our Skills and Knowledge for the Diabetes Integrated Care Pathway”. He underwent training at Joslin Diabetes Center, Boston, USA for this award.
