What is Pneumonia?

Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs. It may occur in one or both lungs. The air sacs may be filled with fluid or pus (purulent material), resulting in cough with phlegm or pus, chills, fever and difficulty breathing.

Pneumonia is caused by a variety of organisms, including bacteria, viruses and fungi.

What are the signs & symptoms of Pneumonia?

Symptoms include cough, yellowish or green phlegm and fever.

How is Pneumonia diagnosed?

A chest X-ray is done to detect infection of the lungs.

What are the treatment options for Pneumonia?

Antibiotics are administered to treat this common condition.
