What is Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)?

ARDS occurs when the lungs are affected by severe inflammation and subsequently scarring, which leads to extremely low level of oxygen in the blood. This is a dangerous condition with a high risk of death.

What are the treatment options for ARDS?

Treatment often involves the use of a breathing machine known as a ventilator.
