Prof Aymeric Lim is the Chief Executive Officer of the National University Hospital (NUH), a 1,250-bed tertiary care hospital of the National University Health System and principal teaching hospital of the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and the NUS Faculty of Dentistry. He is a Senior Consultant at the hospital’s Department of Hand & Reconstructive Microsurgery, and a Professor with the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, National University of Singapore (NUS).
Before serving as NUH’s CEO, Professor Lim held various leadership positions at both institutional and national levels. He was Group Chairman, Medical Board of the NUHS (2017-2020) and its Group Chief Human Resource Officer (2018-2019). Prior to that, Professor Lim was NUH’s Chairman, Medical Board (2008-2016). He served as Vice-Dean in the Dean's Office, NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in 2017. Professor Lim was the Commanding Officer of a Combat Support Hospital in the Singapore Armed Forces from 2009 to 2015. In 2012, he was appointed founding Dean of the Healthcare Leadership College, MOH Holdings, a position he held till 2021.
In 2023, Professor Lim was conferred the NTUC May Day Awards Medal of Commendation for his contributions made to improving among others, staff welfare and work prospects. He received the Public Administration Medal (Gold) (COVID-19) in 2022 for his contributions to Singapore’s fight against the pandemic.
He was conferred the Long Service Medal at the National Day Awards in 2022, and the Public Administration Medal (Silver) at the National Day Awards in 2018. In 2012, he received the Commendation Medal (Military) at the National Day Awards.
With almost 30 years of experience, Professor Lim is an internationally recognised hand and reconstructive microsurgeon, subspecialising in peripheral nerve surgery, brachial plexus, stroke and thoracic outlet syndrome. He has published extensively in these areas. His research on the intra-muscular innervation of the muscles of the forearm has led to new clinical work in the field of tendon and nerve transfers.
For his outstanding achievements in the advancement of hand and reconstructive microsurgery, peripheral nerve surgery and his contributions to shaping the safety culture of healthcare services, Professor Lim was awarded the Singapore Ministry of Health's National Medical Excellence Awards - Outstanding Clinician Award in 2019.
A strong advocate of humanitarian work, Professor Lim has led medical missions to places like Taiwan, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Zambia and Bandar Aceh in Indonesia.
