Associate Professor Dan Yock Young is the Chief Executive Officer of Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH) and Jurong Community Hospital (JCH). He was the Deputy Director-General of Health (DDGH) at the Ministry of Health (MOH) since 2020, and oversaw the healthcare services organisation and provision in public hospitals and primary care, as well as the integration with community partners.
A/Prof Dan co-led efforts in healthcare transformation, specifically at the re-organisation of primary care and the establishment of longitudinal care models to be future-ready for Singapore's healthcare needs.
A gastroenterologist by training, A/Prof Dan was previously a Deputy Chairman, Medical Board, and the University Medicine Cluster Chair and Head of Department of Medicine, at the National University Hospital (NUH), where he led the largest clinical and academic department in the hospital to deliver high standards of clinical services.
Committed to grooming the next generation of clinicians, A/Prof Dan is also a well-respected educator who has held concurrent appointments on the Residency Advisory Committees for Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, and chairs the Master of Medicine/MRCP (Internal Medicine) Committee, under the Division of Graduate Medical Studies at the National University of Singapore.
With a special interest in Liver Stem Cell and non-alcoholic liver disease, A/Prof Dan was awarded the A*STAR International Fellowship to research on liver stem cells and liver regeneration. He is a clinician scientist with interests in the cost-effectiveness of clinical treatments, liver progenitor cells and their therapeutic applications as well as pathogenesis and treatment targets in liver failure. He has won numerous awards at both local and international conferences and has authored over 150 publications and review articles in Gastroenterology and Hepatology journals.
