Adjunct Associate Professor Mark Puhaindran is a highly respected surgeon specialising in musculoskeletal oncology and reconstructive microsurgery. A graduate of the National University of Singapore, he completed his specialist training in hand and reconstructive microsurgery at the National University Hospital (NUH), followed by a fellowship in musculoskeletal oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre, New York, under the Ministry of Health’s Health Manpower Development Plan Award. He is an alumnus of the Executive Programme at Stanford Graduate School of Business.

A veteran hand surgeon, Adj A/Prof Puhaindran has held numerous leadership roles within the National University Health System (NUHS). He served as Head of the Division of Musculoskeletal Oncology, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at NUH (2012–2023), and Chair of the Musculoskeletal Surgery / Sarcoma Cancer Programme at the National University Cancer Institute, Singapore. He was the Head of the Division of Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (2018–2021), and Head of the Department of Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery at NUH (2021-2024). He was also Chairman of the NUH Operating Theatre Committee (2021-2024).

Adj A/Prof Puhaindran is an avid educator and researcher who mentors undergraduate and postgraduate trainees. He has published numerous book chapters and articles in international journals on hand surgery and soft tissue tumours. His contributions to medical education earned him the NUHS Teaching Excellence Award in 2022. For his outstanding clinical contributions, he was honoured with the Master Clinician Award in 2023. 

Beyond the hospital, Adj A/Prof Puhaindran holds leadership positions in professional organisations, such as the Singapore Society of Hand Surgery where he was President from 2021 to 2023. He was the Co-Chair of the Organising Committee for the 13th Congress of the Asian Pacific Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand in 2023. He successfully led Singapore’s bid to host the 17th Congress of the International Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand in 2028.
