NMRC Research Training Fellowship

NMRC Research Training Fellowship is opened to clinicians, health science professionals and biostatisticians interested in overseas research training or to pursue a graduate degree in clinical and translational research in local or overseas institutions.

  

TYPES OF FELLOWSHIP

1. Local Training Leading to a graduate degree (preferably PhD) or

2. Overseas Research Attachment

 

1.Local Training leading to a PhD or Master's Degree
 

Eligibility

This category is open to a) medical doctors/dental surgeons who are registered with the Singapore Medical Council/Dental Board who have exited from their AST programme (i.e. Associate Consultants & above), b) health science professionals (e.g., nurses, pharmacists) and c) biostatisticians.

 

Applicants must be either Singapore citizens or Permanent Residents, and must be working in a public institution in Singapore. They will also be required to serve a bond with the Government of Singapore upon the completion of their training.

 

Components of Award

• Award value of up to S$500,000 per awardee over 2-3 years (extendable to 4 years for PhD degree).
• Salary and full tuition fees for part-time or local full-time PhD or master's degree studies.
• Conference support of up to $4,000 per year during the period of training.
• Eligibility to apply for a research seed funding upon completion of training, of up to $30,000 (subject to the approval of a research proposal).

 

2. Overseas Research Attachment

 

Eligibility

This category is open to a) Medical doctors/dental surgeons who are registered with the Singapore Medical Council/Dental Board of all grades, from Specialist Medical Officers to Consultants, b) health science professionals (e.g., nurses, pharmacists) and c) Biostatisticians.

 

Applicants must be either Singapore citizens or Permanent Residents, and must be working in a public institution in Singapore. They will also be required to serve a bond with the Government of Singapore upon the completion of their training.

 

Components of Award

• Award value of up to S$500,000 per awardee of up to 2 years for a research attachment not leading to degree, or up to 3 years for a research attachment leading to a degree (extendable to 4 years for PhD degree).
• Salary, tuition fees, maintenance allowance, return air passage, health insurance.
• Conference support of up to $4,000 per year during the period of training.
• For an awardee who is supported for more than 12 months of training, he/she is eligible to apply for research seed funding upon completion of training, of up to $30,000 (subject to the approval of a research proposal).

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

 

Please submit 2 hardcopies (1 original and 1 photocopy) and 1 softcopy of thefollowing documents to Geetha Baskaran/Sherline Tay, NUHS Research Office (Level 11, NUHS Tower Block, 1E Kent Ridge Road) by Wed, 2 Nov 2011

 

Documents:

(a) Application form - to be endorsed by Head of Department
(b) Copy of Singapore National Registration Identity Card.
(c) Letter of appointment/employment contract and information on your remuneration package (e.g., salary, annual wage supplement, bonus).
(d) Details of Research Project under the following headings: Introduction, Aims, Hypotheses, Methodology and References.
(e) Information on optional/mandatory courses to be taken, if applicable.
(f) Document(s) detailing fee structure for PhD or Master’s training (if applicable).
(g) Declaration by OHR (ANNEX I of application form).

 

Letters From:

(h) Institution’s Chairman of Medical Board
Written commitment that the fellow will have a minimum of 30% protected time for research upon the fellow’s return from his/her training.
(i) Head of Department
Letter of recommendation that includes Department’s commitment to provide continuing oversight for the fellow’s training.
(j) Research Supervisor (during period of award)
Letter of undertaking and curriculum vitae (to include a record of research funding & a record of past and current fellows trained.)
(k) Research Mentor(after period of award)
Letter indicating commitment to mentor fellow upon fellow’s completion of the training award and curriculum vitae (to include a record of research funding & a record of past and current fellows trained.)
