Ms Joanne Yap is the Group Chief Operating Officer and Group Data Protection Officer of the National University Health System (NUHS). As Group Chief Operating Officer, Joanne has been tasked to develop this new portfolio with the goal of achieving Operations functional integration and operational excellence across NUHS. As Group Data Protection Officer, she oversees NUHS’ PDPA processes and compliance, to ensure that personal data is properly managed and safeguarded.
Joanne concurrently holds the appointment of Chief Strategy Officer of JurongHealth Campus (JHC) where she oversees strategy development and implementation within Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, Jurong Community Hospital and Jurong Medical Centre.
Joanne’s career spans the private, not-for-profit and public sectors, starting as a journalist with the Business Times. Her career in public healthcare spans five organisations – KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital (KKH), National University Hospital (NUH), Singapore General Hospital (SGH) and currently NUHS and JHC. Prior to her current appointments, Joanne spent 8 years as Chief Operating Officer and subsequently Group Chief Operating Officer of JHC, holding portfolios across the spectrum of hospital management such as Corporate Planning and Performance Management, Operations, Quality Improvement, Information Technology/Management, Hospital Commissioning and Institutional Care Collaborations.
Joanne graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the National University of Singapore, before pursuing a postgraduate degree in Marketing at Ngee Ann Polytechnic (Singapore), Masters in Hospital and Healthcare Services at the University of Minnesota (USA) and Masters in Information Studies at the Nanyang Technological University (Singapore). She also completed Harvard University’s Advanced Management Program in 2013.
