Associate Professor Khoo See Meng is a senior consultant at the Division of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. His clinical interests are in sleep medicine and he is the principal lead for the Sleep Laboratory at the National University Health System. This has grown from a simple clinical service to a full-fledged specialty programme.

Assoc Prof Khoo is the inaugural programme director for the University Medicine Cluster’s (UMC) Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education-International (ACGME-I) internal medicine residency programme. Since its inception five years ago, he has been the driving force behind it. He is responsible for its conceptualisation, implementation and success. His ability to integrate the complex new programme into the system, get the ‘buy-in’ of the faculty and inculcate a culture of intrinsic ownership of the programme speaks volumes of his leadership capabilities. The UMC’s residency programme holds the accolade of being one of the first in Singapore to be accredited by ACGME-I. It has recently been given a full four years’ accreditation, a rare accomplishment for a centre outside the United States.

Contributing more than just administrative oversight, Assoc Prof Khoo has brought his personal passion and drive to the programme, while his care and commitment to the residents have earned him successive mentorship awards.

Associate Professor Khoo See Meng’s positive energy and inspirational leadership are part of the reason the UMC’s residency programme counts as one of the country’s best. He has been a role model for generations of residents and he is certainly a worthy recipient of the Young Achiever Award.
