Assistant Director

Department of Nursing
National University Hospital

Ms Joann Pang is a passionate nurse who champions patients, believes firmly in continuous education and staff development, and leads by walking the talk.

Ms Pang is a fierce advocate for patient safety and occupational safety. She is known to proactively review work processes and is sensitive to quality improvement opportunities, both for staff as well as for patients.  Her recent projects include the elective surgery throughput project, which has resulted in the number of emergency P2 cases treated within six hours increase from 82.5 per cent in 2011 to over 90 percent currently. She is also a member of the Nursing Magnet Steering Committee and leader for the Magnet Structural Empowerment Workgroup, which is charged with transforming the nursing work culture at NUH into one that espouses shared governance and shared leadership.

Ms Pang continually inspires others to join her quest to deliver care of the highest quality. Junior nurses readily approach her when they need advice or someone to confide in. She provides constructive feedback and takes special care in maintaining confidentiality with matters entrusted to her. Her nurturing qualities made her a natural choice to be part of the pioneer teaching faculty for the Graduate Nurse Residency Program, where she mentors newly recruited nursing baccalaureate graduates and helps them transit successfully from students to professional nurses.
